All about the skateboard deck
The deck is made of wood using 7 to 9 separate thin sheets of wood which are joined together by high-strength epoxy glue. Most of the decks are made of 7-ply maple wood that has enough stability, is flexible and lightweight. Also, some boards are made of 9 ply maple wood. Changing the number of ply that will affect its durability, weight, and performance. Yes, we agree that 9 ply maple wood gives the best performance but that’s not too much different from 7 ply maple. Different types of decks are made of bamboo, carbon fiber, resin, or plastic. If you are a beginner we will recommend you start your journey with a 7 ply maple deck.
Skateboard Decks Width
The deck width does not depend on your skill or newbie or pros, it depends on your age, height, or shoe size. The deck size comes 7 to 10 inches wide. A perfect wider deck always gives you great stability when skateboarding. A long-width deck feels uncomfortable and needs more energy to ride. On the contrary, a too-smaller deck is not possible to tricky ride and is difficult to balance. That’s why you need to choose the right width of decks for the best riding experience.
Skateboard Decks Length
The width between the nose tip and the tail end is the length of the skateboard. The length size comes in 28 inches to 33 inches. The length size is not important as usual but some pro skaters follow on length.
Skateboard Decks Wheelbase
The average wheelbase is 13 inches to 15 inches. It’s the distance from the inner mounting holes of your board. Some of the companies are manufacturing multiple wheelbase mounting holes for a truck that will greatly impact the efficiency of the board. The benefit of a longer wheelbase will improve your turning radius and feel more stable when you skateboard but it responds slowly to your movement. As a shorter wheelbase perfect for sudden turns and it can respond rapidly to movement but is not easily stable.
Skateboard Decks Nose and Tail
when you run a skateboard, the front that moves you forward is the nose and the tail is the back side on the skateboard. The larger part is the nose and the smallest is the tail.
Skateboard Bearing size
The bearing does not have multiple sizes, all of the bearings are the same sizes. The skates have a total of 4 wheels and two bearings are required to rotate a single wheel. The standard bearing dimensions are 8mm (inner diameter), 22mm (outer diameter), and 7mm (width). But, the bearings have various types of consistency measured by the rating system ABEC (1, 3, 5, 7, and 9).
Skateboard Truck size
A good truck is made of aluminum alloy which is connected to the deck, and the wheels are attached to the truck. The trucks need must be 1/4 inch on your deck size. Suppose your skating deck size is 8.25 inches, you should need the truck size 8 inches.
